When Chris Marker Had a Second Life
See famed French artist Chris Marker dance with his cat avatar, Guillaume-en-Egypte, on Second Life. The happiness is hard to contain!
Back in ‘08, along with architect Max Moskowitz, Marker developed Ouvrior, a museum of sorts. In conjunction with Harvard Film Archives, Marker gave a guided tour of his compound. See walkthroughs here, here, and here.
When asked if he could spend more time in SL, Marker responds: “I would retire here for good. Like Brando in Tahiti. There’d be fewer worries in terms of maintenance.”
Within SL, the image is not confined. Not by surface, by linearity, by conventional divisions of still/motion. An ideal resting place for Chris Marker.
SL coordinates for Ouvrior can be found here.

Let America be America Again 8:53 pm       108 notes

Let America be America again.
Let it be the dream it used to be.
Let it be the pioneer on the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.

(America never was America to me.)

Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed—
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings…
